Multi-edition newspaper for Fevered Sleep’s provocative but uncontroversial performance ‘Men & Girls Dance’. The paper was designed as a programme, marketing tool and conversation starter, and distributed in each of the areas prior to the show – Quarterhouse (Folkestone), Lawrence Batley Theatre (Huddersfield), The Lowry (Salford), Dance4 (Nottingham), South East Dance (Brighton) and The Place (London).

It was important we embraced the nature of the medium alongside the content – the design fuses elements of the expected with the playful, in a bid to capture the ‘tainted’

relationship of the media with the joyful spirit of the piece.

We were only too aware that the design would be pivotal to the way the message would be conveyed, and it would be important where we placed the emphasis within a medium that has set rules and ideologies. Channeling only the broadsheets would fail to speak to the masses, whilst replicating the tabloids risked parody. Our answer was to unite through variation in typography and the use of space, while Karen Robinson’s reportage photos encapsulated the juxtaposition of joy and risk.
