Central’s REF 2021: Practice Research Submission

Rigorous and extensive submissions for Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, comprising 18 bespoke Practice Research boxes and booklets created for The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London.

Each crafted box contains a printed booklet describing the practice research project of the individual researcher – a group including theatremakers, directors, designers, live artists, composers, artists and practitioners working across art forms – plus an accompanying USB drive and corresponding ephemera that illustrates the practice research with each

submission’s supporting documentation.

The project was commissioned by Prof. Maria Delgado, Central’s Director of Research, and led by Prof. David Harradine (Professor of Interdisciplinary Practice), with support from Dr Joe Parslow (Lecturer, Contemporary Performance Practice).

The process involved a careful balance of all elements: precise design, lecturers’ statements, expert box construction by Boss, and a deft print output. Crest’s granular screenprinting proved the perfect contrast to Push’s fine internal print. Collaboration at its finest.
